How long does each therapy session take?
Individual sessions with children are 50 minutes long.
Additional meetings with parents can be arranged if needed for an extra cost.
How many sessions will I need?
I offer both short term and long term therapy depending on the needs of the client. I would recommend a minimum of six sessions, but many individuals may need sessions for a year or longer.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for my child?
When a young person is under 18, a parent/guardian will usually make the initial contact by email or phone.
We can then arrange a 20 minute telephone or video appointment free of charge where you can tell me your concerns and ask any questions you might have.
Sometimes a young person might join the appointment with their parent/guardian or use part of the time to speak to me on their own.
We can then decide the best way to proceed.
How much do you charge?
Child and young person sessions are £80.
Meetings with parents can be arranged for a discretionary additional cost.
I have provision for one low cost client a year, depending on capacity. Please let me know in your initial enquiry if you are interested in this provision.
Where are you located?
I deliver sessions in SE1. The exact address will be given to you if you decide to send your child to therapy with me.
Can I stop anytime?
Yes. Once we start working together there is no obligation to continue. If you don’t want to continue, for whatever reason, you can stop. I would however ask that you let your child have time to adjust to ending their therapy. This can take up to four weeks.
Is everything confidential?
Yes. I adhere to the BACP’s ethical guidelines. However, if a child or young person tells me something that I think a parent/guardian needs to know, I will discuss with them the best approach for either how they or I will tell the parent/guardian.
If I think anyone is at serious risk of being harmed, I will need to inform other professionals.
Can parents/guardians be told what their child discusses with you?
No, unless the child gives me explicit instructions for me to tell them. The content of sessions will not be discussed without the young person’s consent in order to protect their confidentiality. Occasionally, it can be helpful for a parent/guardian to have a review of sessions, where I will discuss general themes that have arisen if appropriate.
How do I pay?
Payments can be made via bank transfer. Details will be shared before the first session occurs and payment will need to be made in advance of every session.
Why should I send my child to you?
I have significant experience working with children in both the private and charitable sectors, in four different countries. I will only work with your child if they want to work with me, and if they actively want therapy. I have a deep and abiding respect for children and young people and I hope they will see this in everything I do.
It’s the mind. it’s the most complex and astonishing thing there is, that there’s a world inside each of us that no else can ever know or see or visit – except you. Lainie Taylor
